Hello everyone,
Today was our dress rehearsal for the upcoming End of Year Show. Thank you to those of you who brought your children’s costumes as requested. Hopefully, next time we can have everyone present and in costume ready to perform.
The rehearsal took up most of the morning. During the afternoon, the children reviewed Unit 3 & 4 phonics sounds by identifying words beginning with specific letters, identifying missing letters from simple CVC words and spelling simple words from a selection of available letters.
Additionally, the reviewed the names and properties of some simple 2D shapes in Chinese class. They identified examples of shapes in the environment and made their own shapes using straws.
The children also used some time to participate in continuous provision (self-led learning) by exploring a number of materials related to the current topic (insects).
今天的中文数学课上，我们首先一起回顾了圆形、三角形、正方形等常规平面图形以及它们各自的特点，帮孩子们理清了已有的形状认知。随后，课程重点转向半圆和梯形这两个新图形。借助生活中常见的例子——比如切开的西瓜、滑梯的面、梯子或房顶的形状，孩子们很快就把半圆和梯形和日常事物联系了起来，轻松记住了它们的样子。最孩子们还试着用吸管积木拼搭梯形，这样一来，他们不仅能认出这两个图形，还能用积木再现出来，进一步加深对图形特征的理解。
