In today’s PBL, the children continued to learn about life cycles. Today we looked at the life cycle of a frog and followed its process from egg, to tadpole, to froglet to adult frog. The children identified the steps of the cycle and numbered them appropriately.
In phonics, the children reviewed the high-frequency words that they’ve learned and were introduced to the word ‘are.’ They identified the word from within a cluster of other sight words, learned how we can use the word in a sentence and created their own sentences containing the word.
In Chinese class, the children learned the concept of thick and thin. They observed a number of objects and ordered them from thinnest to thickest.
今天的中文数学课特别好玩，老师用一杯珍珠奶茶带孩子们认识“粗和细”。一开始，老师用吸管吸茶里的“珍珠”，怎么吸都吸不上来，急得不行；换了一根粗一点的吸管吧，哇，一下就把“珍珠”吸到嘴里了。原来吸管粗细不同，效果差这么多！然后老师让孩子们试试把真的珍珠放进不同粗细的吸管里：有的吸管珍珠根本塞不进去，有的刚好卡住，有的珍珠放进去还能在里面滚来滚去，特别有意思。老师又问：“如果换成更大的珍珠，粗吸管还能吸起来吗？”孩子们想了想，觉得不一定——珍珠太大，再粗的吸管可能也装不下。原来粗和细是相对的，要看和谁比。接着老师又搬出几根树桩，让孩子们试着坐上去。细树桩坐上去摇摇晃晃，屁股硌得慌；粗树桩稳稳当当，坐着可舒服了。最后孩子们动手把一堆平面木片从粗到细排成一排，一边排一边比，谁粗谁细一下子就清楚了。一节课下来，孩子们先是观察，再动脑筋想，最后自己动手操作，轻轻松松就学习“粗 & 细”。原来数学就藏在吸管、珍珠、树桩、木片等常见的东西里，真有趣！
