As a prelude to this week’s Literacy Month story, The Gingerbread Man, the children were introduced to the ingredients used to make gingerbread. These included ginger root, ginger powder, cinnamon, dried oranges and star anise. Each child touched and smelled the ingredients and told whether they liked or disliked the smell. Then, volunteers put on a blindfold to guess which of the items they were touching and smelling.
In STEM class, the children continued to learn about magnets. They focused on the poles of a magnets and carried out an experiment to test which pole attracts and which repels.
In phonics, the children learned the letter Bb. They identified the letter in upper and lowercase, learned vocabulary beginning with the letter and used the letter’s sound to blend unfamiliar words.
In Chinese class, the children listened to the story The Fox Borrows the Tiger’s Fierceness which tells of being brave and being able to overcome difficult situations They discussed and recreated parts of the story to understand the meaning behind it.

今天的语文课上,我们一起走进了有趣的成语故事《狐假虎威》。故事里有威风凛凛的大老虎,也有聪明机灵的狐狸——狐狸差点被老虎吃掉,却灵机一动,借着老虎的威风把森林里的小动物们都吓跑啦!孩子们听了都很好奇:小动物们到底怕的是谁呢?原来呀,它们真正害怕的是狐狸身后那只凶猛的老虎,老虎就这样被狐狸“骗”过去啦!听完故事后,孩子们还兴致勃勃地扮演起了故事里的角色。有的演神气的老虎,有的演笑眯眯的狐狸,还有的演慌张逃跑的小动物。虽然大家年纪还小,对故事里借别人的势力吓唬人的道理还不能完全明白,但每个孩子都有自己的想法:有的说狐狸很狡猾,有的说狐狸真聪明,还有的认真地说厉害的老虎怎么会这么笨呢?
我们还结合故事认识了四个汉字:口(老虎张开大口想要吃狐狸)、前(狐狸走在前面)、后(老虎跟在后面)、找(小动物们赶紧找地方躲起来)。孩子们一边学一边比划,在故事里学汉字,好像也变得更有意思了呢!
