Hello everyone,
In today’s PBL, the children listened to the story The Runaway Pancake. We compared and contrasted the story with The Gingerbread Man as both tales follow a very similar storyline. The children reenacted parts of the story with a small game and completed story related coloring sheets.
In phonics, the children learned the digraph ‘ss.’ The learned vocabulary containing the digraph and practiced their blending skills to decode unfamiliar words (kiss, mess, less, miss).
In STEM class, the children continued their learning about farms and farm animals. They focused on where specific animals take shelter Using a variety of materials, the children created their own barns to shelter cattle, horses and pigs etc.
In Chinese class, the children listened to the story Laba Porridge (Eight Treasures Porridge). They learned to identify the ingredients of the porridge through looking, touching and smelling. The children then had fun preparing ingredients for their own Laba porridge before tasting a premade porridge.
今天的腊八节中文课可热闹啦!我们先一起欣赏了绘本《腊八粥》,也知道了原来腊八就是中国农历腊月初八,是一年里的第十二个月份的第八天—马上要过年啰! 看到故事里那个懒儿子没粮食饿肚子的时候,好几个孩子着急地喊:他应该早点帮忙呀! 后来邻居们送来红豆、大枣,小米等各种食材,然后煮出香喷喷的腊八粥时,孩子们都笑了。读完故事,孩子们小手可忙了——摸摸圆溜溜的红豆、闻闻香甜的红枣,还抢着给豆子、米粒、黄豆等分类,一边分一边认:原来把这么多种不同的好东西放在一锅里煮,就是腊八粥呀!最开心的当然是吃粥环节啦!看来腊八节“勤劳、互助”的小种子,和腊八粥这个暖暖的名字一起,悄悄在他们心里发芽啦~
