Hello everyone,
In today’s PBL, the children listened to their final reading of The Little Red Hen. They were able to answer questions throughout the reading regarding the characters, setting and events of the story. The children recreated the story using a cut and paste story map activity. They completed a story related coloring sheet and through discussions were able to understand the moral of the story and why the Little Red Hen did not give any bread to her friends.
In phonics, the children continued to practice segmenting and blending. They matched this week’s CVC and CVCC words (lip, log, leg, doll, hill & roll) to picture cards and used recently learned high-frequency words to build a short sentence (I go to the hill).
In PE class, the children developed body coordination and strength through running with quick directional changes, and early ball skill such as two-handed catching and underhand passing.
In Chinese class, the children continued to learn about the Lunar New Year festival and the year of the horse. They listened to the folk tale, The Kitchen God, observed the Chinese character for horse and created horse related New Year couplet crafts using black ink colored playdough.

今天的中文课上，我们先用温暖有趣的方式走进了绘本《灶王爷》的世界。通过书中小女孩的眼睛，孩子们认识了这位总在厨房笑眯眯地看着一家人生活的神仙。大家发现，原来这位神仙有一双大大的眼睛，家里发生的每一件小事——吃饭、说话、甚至一点点小脾气，他都默默看在眼里。到了腊月二十三，他还要飞到天上去汇报工作呢！为了不让他把家里不好的事情汇报给玉皇大帝，小女孩还做了黏黏得糖瓜给他吃，当然这也点小心思没能逃过灶王爷得眼睛，他还是笑眯眯地吃下了糖瓜……
听完故事，孩子们地小手也没闲着——我们一起用超轻黏土玩起了汉字！面对着不同字体的汉字“马、福”，孩子们发现原来同一个字可以有那么多不同的“样子”，有的圆润，有的方正，真的太有趣了。大家认真地搓着黏土条，轻轻贴在字形上，让平面的汉字慢慢“站”了起来。当一个个立体又可爱的黏土字出现在桌上时，每个人都忍不住看了又看——原来汉字不仅可以读、可以写，还可以像艺术品一样，用手捏出来呢！
